The 1999 Management Student's Association 2nd Annual Hollywood Spring Break Escape

  (schedule of event's below)

This year includes:

Monday April 5th

Arrival at the CSU Northridge Apartment Dorms. I will give you maps and other info. Many students last year went to Six Flags Magic Mountain prior to arriving in the dorms. This is always an option as you will be driving past it before arriving at CSU Northridge.

Meet at the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood at the University City Walk. The Universal Studios City Walk is a very good starting point for any such trip and has a good directory online. It is a city walkway created by Universal Studios as a free and safe entertainment option for families and tourists. It includes numerous restaurants and entertainment options. We will be meeting at the Hardrock Cafe at 7PM. After this you are free to do anything you want for that evening. I strongly suggest that you either utilize what City Walk has to offer. They have one of the best cineplexes in Los Angeles and alway have the best movies. They also have the Hollywood Billiards Club, B.B. Kings nightclub and concert hall, the Universal Amphitheater and other goodies.

Ben Stein ! Win Ben Stein's Money is a 'Jeopardy' style game show where contestants get a chance to win $5,000 of Ben Steins' money.  It starts out with three contestants answering questions to try to get as much money as they can. In round two, the player with the lowest amount of money has to give it back to Ben, and Ben takes their place for the rest of the round, where questions' values rise to $200 to $500 of Ben's money.  At the end of round two, again the player with the lowest winnings gets canned, and the money goes back to Ben. In round three, the player with the most winnings will face Ben in a 'lightning round' where they have one minute to get ten questions correct, and if they get more right than Ben, they get all $5,000 of Ben's money.  If they tie with Ben, they get the money they won in rounds' one and two, plus an extra $1,000.  If they get less than Ben, all they get is the money that they won in round's one and two.  The sad and dismal truth to this show is, Ben Stein's Money is given to him by Comedy Central, and whatever the player's don't win, he gets to keep. Thus, he nets anywhere from 15 to 18 thousand dollars a week! Win Ben Stein's Money can be seen Monday-Thursday at 7:30 P.M.

Craig Kilborn has taken a personal vow to make his show the top-rated late night program on any network sometime toward the end of February Sweeps during the 2012-2013 television season. In the interim, he is totally committed to making the show "significantly above average." Kilborn, of course, is no stranger to outrageous promises. As a child, he regularly told his parents he would earn straight A's on his report card. In 12 years, he managed one - thanks to his recitation on good grooming (Magenta and You: Think About It), which later served as the basis for his senior thesis. At college, he pledged to lead the Montana State University Bobcats basketball team to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Although the team finished fourth in the Big Sky Conference, Kilborn did lead the league in turnovers - despite limited playing time resulting from a nagging groin pull. As a radio and television play-by-play commentator for the Savannah Spirits of the Continental Basketball Association, he told fans of the much-traveled franchise that, this time, the team "was in town to stay." The Spirits, and Kilborn, were history by March 15. Later, as sports director for KCBA-TV in Monterey, Calif., he informed viewers that Mark McGwire confided to him he "would always wear Athletic green and yellow." Some guys just can't be trusted. As host of ESPN's popular early morning SportsCenter, Kilborn said it "would take a case of Macallan 25 and a box of Macanudos" for him to cohost with "highlight hogging" Keith Olbermann. Actually, all it took was one Boston Market dinner with an extra side of slaw - and the threat of yet another suspension. While with Comedy Central, Kilborn avowed that he would never leave as host and major creative source for the network's hit, The Daily Show, until he was heading up a network late-night show. Hey, there's always a first time. Craig Kilborn takes over as host of THE LATE LATE SHOW on CBS on March 30, 1999. Tom Snyder had hosted the program since its inception on January 9, 1995.

Free day to experience LA in your own special way!

Realistic Expected Budget per single student: $50-66 total includes two nights lodging and one meal; all extra costs are shopping, drinks, other meals and gas as you choose, and other entertainment options. However a single students on a tight budget can realistically do this trip (eating at Micky D of course) for no more than $66. A realistic budget for a person who want to enjoy a few drinks, and maybe eat a nice meal should expect to spend about $75-85 total costs including housing and meals and entertainment. No matter how you look at it I doubt any of you will spend more than $100 for all costs including housing, parking, tapings of shows, tours and meals (hint: don't order Kahlua shakes at Hard Rock Cafe!.. they will break your budget).

Housing Options: CSU Northridge has 4 person 2 bedroom apartments. I have visited them and they are very nice, safe and clean. For $22 per night per person you can share a room with another student. The apartments are quite large and include kitchen, private bath etc. You will have to pay for your own parking in the dorms if you choose to park there. I believe the cost is $1.50 per day but I could be wrong. You pay when you arrive and register. If you do not want to share a room with anyone but wish to use the CSUN apartment option you will be charged $33 per night for your private room. The campus also has a hotel option which is at a different rate. This may be a good option for those who have a larger size family or group attending and you want to stay together. You are not required to stay at CSUN, however, I do not recommend searching for hotels or motels in the LA area. The prices can be a surprise and the price/quality ratio is rarely good in LA. CSU Northridge is ideally located to all the major movie studions and entertainment options.

Deposits: I would prefer to take the entire $49 per person with me when I deliver the deposits to CSU Northridge next week. You can put half down now if you want. I will need all the names of the individuals who are going (friends, relatives etc.). We need to have 20 students paid at the Northridge dorms to get the rate we have.
